[ Which is a rough summary of this tag, but in truth, that's just Break's mental processing of what occurs here. Hearing Undyne is nothing new, as they're neighbors, but hearing her come this way is slightly surprising. Yet far, far more surprising is when she stops in front of his door. "Stop" being used loosely here, because it's almost immediately followed by the door opening sharply, which gets even Break to flinch.

He's at least listening to Gilbert's eternal lectures about not exerting himself, so he's staying in bed, doing true grandpa things. Like knitting. He is definitely knitting a super ugly scarf.

But he's also too shocked by Undyne being herself to even respond at first. Surely, Gilbert will have a more elegant response (he will not). ]

UNDYNE—?!

[No. No, he will not.

Honestly I could leave the tag at that since Gilbert's not going to get any more useful, but he will continue to be loud... He's over in the corner writing something down with the lamp on, so truly these two are just being Quiet Victorian Grandpas in here, but now there's a big inkblot running right across the center of the page since he jumped like such a moron.

At least he'll think to add:]

—Break's staying inside today. ...And just knock next time! Don't go around kicking in doors!

[Wow. This is the saddest scene she has ever walked in on. How are you both so old. ESPECIALLY YOU GILBERT, YOU'RE THE SAME AGE AS SHE IS.]

Why? Is he sick? You should get some fresh air then, Break! Staying in cooped up all day can't be good for you! [Just ignoring that last part you can't tell her what to do Gilbert]

[ Break is at least quick to recover from his shock, partially because laughing at Gilbert always does wonders for him, and partially because this is a chance. He pauses in his knitting and tells Gilbert to write down whatever numbers he was on, but then waves a hand in Undyne's direction. ]

Why, I'd like to, of course~. But Gilbert is very difficult to sneak away from. "You're too sick" this and "you should take it easy" that~.

[He's rapidly aging... RAPIDLY AGING, UNDYNE, AND YOU'RE PARTIALLY TO BLAME.]

He's not going outside. If he needs fresh air, we'll just open a window. [Dutifully marking down the numbers but then MOVING TO THE WINDOW to crack it open! There, a nice refreshing breeze for the old man room.]

—What are you doing here, anyway?

[Side-eyeing Gilbert like whoa.] Wow Gilbert, you're a lot meaner than I thought...taking advantage of someone's sickness to lock them in their room! That's pretty cold! [STOP BULLYING POOR SWEET INNOCENT BREAK GILBERT]

What, I need a reason to hang out with people? Like I said, you two haven't been around much this week so I thought I'd check up and make sure you're okay! [In other words, Sans having immunity means she can finally take a temporary break from babysitting duties and she got bored.]

He's extremely cruel~! He's made sure I've been bedridden since Sunday night, you know!

[ Which is partially true, but mostly bullshit... Break has definitely been around the hotel a few times, but for the most part, Gilbert's definitely not wrong here. Break super overdid it last week, so now he actually has to take it easy to make up for that. Though of course, he's being a shit, but he also just doesn't like being this idle. ]

But I'm fine. It was just a very tiring week, and it caught up to me all at once. Nothing to worry about. ♥

[STOP HE'S JUST DOING HIS BABYSITTING DUTIES. He scowls at Break, but at least he's not enough of a punkass to make some rudeshit remark about his gross old man blood illnesses.]

It's fine if you spend time in here, but he's not going outside yet, and that's that! [Nanny Gilbert putting his foot down...]

We'll all be running around in a couple of days anyway, so it's better to rest now while it isn't too late in the week.

Seriously? [She gives Break a wide-eyed horrified look at his statement, then turns to Gilbert.] What, are you crazy? Look at how skinny he is, he'll waste away into a skeleton if you make him stay in bed this long! And not a cool monster skeleton either! At least make him do some push-ups while he's there! [Undyne is good enough to bully both Pandoras at once okay.]

Hey, maybe this'll finally be the week where everyone actually remembers their honor and don't try to murder anyone. You never know. [Judging by her tone of voice though, she is not optimistic about this.]

It's not that bad. [ it kind of is, break ] I don't need to do anything like push-ups anyways. I'd usually train my skills during the day, but it seems exceedingly foolish to do so.

[ HE WOULD TOTALLY FIGHT YOU but he doesn't want to show off how cool he is? duh? ]

He's not doing any push-ups! [Pretty much said at the same time Break starts defending his scrawny ass... He's tired!!! HE'S SO TIRED.]

Anyway, we all know that isn't going to happen. That motive's bound to appeal to someone here or they wouldn't have used it, right?

We've been here for five weeks! If you don't train at all during that time, your skills are going to go rusty! [Also, she's super curious about his skills since Rhys seemed pretty convinced that Break would keel over and die if he ever stepped outside the hotel without help. FIGHT HER BREAK DO IT]

Appeal enough to risk their life on? We've caught all the killers so far. [Buddy and Morrigan are a special case but she counts it as a victory anyway since Morrigan volunteered and all.] Even if some of them have been pretty close calls. [Like...last week's...]

[ He sighs and sits back in his comfy pillows, though he definitely looks mildly annoyed enough in a way that seems to imply that he might be considering it. His desire to ~~sin~~fight sometimes overpowers logic, but he's trying to not let it, thanks!! ]

They won't get rusty. I've practiced with the sword nearly every day for almost my whole life, so taking a bit of a break won't be that drastic.

...But that aside, yes. I think there are plenty of people who this motive wouldn't appeal to at all [ he'll kill vincent himself thank you very much ], but as always, it only takes ones person to be tempted.

He'll be fine.

[Break's skills don't need any more sharpening okay, and he keeps on his toes by whacking people's kneecaps when they least expect it... BUT DON'T CONSIDER IT, GRANDPA.

Undyne sure is managing to hold onto some optimism though, dang. Gilbert just sighs, being a gloomy gus resigned to people sinning and murdering left and right.]

Break is right. It only takes one, and I'm sure there are some people here who think they'll be able to beat our streak.

You sure? Keeping up your skill with the sword is one thing, but you're still going to have to build up your strength and muscle mass again if you stop working out for over a month. [Wow, Undyne actually sounds Professional instead of Shounen Crazy here??? Taking a break for five weeks offends her guard captain status, okay.]

Ugh. As far as I see it, it's not actually revenge if you have to rely on this stupid town's power to get it instead of your own two hands, it's just cowardice! [She's not optimistic so much as she is...grimly hanging on to the power of JUSTICE, but yeah, she knows their chances aren't good.]

[ He catches the more serious tone, but if it's strength and muscle mass... That part gets him to laugh slightly, and he shrugs. ]

Well, that won't be a problem.

[ It's brief, and Gilbert's the only one likely to catch where that kind of soft humor is coming from. Break doesn't exactly feel that he'll need it much longer anyways, even outside of the odd circumstances they're going through here. However, that is a difficult topic, so he moves more fully into the latter one, and he resumes his knitting again. He can knit and talk about murder at the same time, apparently. ]

I'd be inclined to agree with that myself, actually! But I would say there are those who won't quite hold such ideals for themselves. Perhaps indirect revenge is a better avenue for those that can't quite take it so easily. Or in most cases, I would say that it perhaps sits better upon their conscience, but considering it requires a murder to start, I doubt it.

[Gilbert does catch it, but it's soft humor over a Really Depressing Topic, so he just briefly averts his gaze and lets that line of conversation drop, too. But as Break picks his knitting up again, Gilbert will return to the chair! And gesture Undyne in, since she's joining the murder chat party now.]

Mm, I don't think it's a matter of conscience either. Just a difference in the method of reaching that end goal... Whoever takes a motive like this must be in a situation where it's impossible to avenge themselves without help, though, if they would be willing to turn to murder and take that risk at trial.

[Undyne does not catch it and just shrugs, because Break is Old and maybe his Old Man Bones will shatter if he swings a sword too hard.] If you say so. We should train together some time though! I promise I won't beat you too hard.

[But okay, on to murder chat party! She'll just lean against the wall with her arms crossed in that typical shounen pose.] If you have to kill two innocent people just to murder one more, you probably don't have much of a conscience to begin with. Even if they were in some kind of situation where...I dunno, the person they got was someone who'd destroy the whole world if they weren't stopped, I wouldn't trust this town to take care of it anyway. Better to risk dying at home fighting with your own power than risk dying here and not being able to do anything at all.

[ He just shrugs noncommittally to training, since other than the fact that Gilbert would Greatly Disapprove, he's not sure if he'd want to anyways. But! Let's move onto happier subjects. Of murder, apparently?? Good job team. ]

I agree. I wouldn't trust anything that this place could offer. But~. I'm also not a very trusting person, I'd admit!

[ Break closes his eye at this point, since it's not exactly like he needs to have it open anyways. That's just more for the comfort of other people at this point. ]

Understanding the motives isn't too important though, I guess. So long as there's temptation, then that's it. You can't eliminate temptation. Technically speaking, we should be eliminating the methods, but that's not something I feel that everyone would be excited for.

That wouldn't work, anyway. Lithuania and I went through when the guns showed up and dismantled them all, and then Dhaos came to break them into pieces later. [Because 1) no one needs firearms and 2) Gilbert doesn't want to be framed or something stupid OKAY, HE SEES THE WRITING ON THE WALL.]

But the next day they were there again, good as new.

Understanding the motive can be important though! Half the reason I figured you probably weren't the killer last week was because Gilbert was super sure you'd never go for the motive. [The other half was team Pride, but that didn't work out too well in the end.]

It's not like most of us even need anything from this town to kill someone. Short of tying everyone up all week in the same room... [She shrugs.] Maybe we should just dump different colored glitter over every person so they'll shed it if they try killing anyone. [Is she joking? It's kind of hard to tell.]

Ah, I should clarify. I mean that it's not important in the scheme of prevention. I'd assume that every week is meant to motivate at least one person even if we may not know it. I doubt our captors would create them this way if they didn't think at least one person would take the chance.

[ Though the fact that everything does regenerate that quickly is news to Break, though it gets him to laugh. It's bitter, though, since it's what should be expected. ]

Tying everyone up all week is a bit too far, most likely~. But at least getting rid of things when our murderers seem to strike could probably help? Who knows, really. [ He shrugs ] It's very frustrating to not be able to be more proactive, that much I'm certain of.

[Aw, was his friendship defense really that effective? Gilbert looks a little surprised, but hey, if it saves Break he's 100% a-okay with it. He'll stan for Break until the bitter end okay...]

Even that "buddy system" isn't flawless, but I do think it's a good place to start. By this point, I'm sure everyone knows to be extra careful starting Thursday afternoons. Spending the night with as many other people as possible may end up saving a life.

[This is also why he's dragging Break into Thursday sleepovers from now on.]

[Undyne is weak to overdramatic declarations of friendship, so yes it was Super Effective on her. Good job Gilbert!!]

It'll at least stop people from leaving their rooms past sundown on Murder Night! If we have to go through another trial wondering how the killer lured out the victim at way-too-late o'clock, I'm gonna start blocking everyone's doors shut with the biggest boulders I can find on Thursday myself. [Looking thoughtful.] Actually, you think that'll work...?

Anyway, if someone really wants to kill, they'll probably find a way to do it. As much as I'd like to protect everyone innocent here... [Well, she has her priorities.]

Well, other than the "finding a boulder" part and the part where you and everyone in your room would probably be suspects, sure, it could~.

[ So, no. No, Undyne, don't put rocks in front of people's doors. Though speaking of, Break does glances Gilbert's way, since it'd be nice to have a third party to witness this, he figures. Just in case. ]

Ah, though...! Since we're talking about it, I think I'll invite Rhys as well, by the way. He probably doesn't have anyone else, right~?
